Before anyone climbs a ladder

Licensed, bonded, and insured — what that means for you

Three labels contractors throw around. Here is what each one actually covers when we are on a Minneapolis or St. Paul roof.

Licensed

We are properly licensed to perform residential gutter work in Minnesota and Wisconsin. That is the baseline for working on your fascia, eaves, and downspouts without putting you in a grey area with inspectors or insurers.

Bonded

Bonding is financial protection tied to the job. If a bonded contractor fails to complete contracted work as agreed, there is a path for recovery beyond hoping someone answers the phone.

Insured

Liability and workers compensation coverage means a ladder slip or property damage claim does not land on your homeowner policy by default. Ask any reputable Twin Cities contractor for proof before work starts — we expect the question.

Warranty years that match Minnesota weather

Our written workmanship warranty runs 5 years — long enough to cover several freeze–thaw seasons on seamless aluminum gutters and leaf guards. It sits on top of the manufacturer’s material warranty for the coil finish. You get both documents when the job is done.

If you are comparing quotes, ask what is in writing and what is only verbal. A cheap install with no paperwork is expensive the first March a miter opens. For the install itself, see gutter installation or price a range on the gutter cost calculator.

In plain terms

What the 5-year warranty covers

There are two different warranties on any gutter job, and companies sometimes let people confuse them. Here is the difference.

Ours — workmanship

5 years, in writing

Covers how we installed it. If something we did fails, we come back at no charge.

  • A seam or miter we sealed starts to leak
  • A hanger pulls loose from the fascia
  • The run holds water because the pitch is wrong
  • An end cap or outlet weeps
  • A downspout separates at a joint we made

The manufacturer's — material

Comes with the coil

Covers the aluminium and its finish. Issued by the mill, not by us, and typically much longer — but it only covers defects in the metal.

  • Paint finish peeling or chalking prematurely
  • Defects in the aluminium itself
  • Colour fade beyond the stated tolerance

We hand you the paperwork for this at the end of the job — it is yours, not ours.

What no warranty covers

Storm damage, a branch coming through the run, a ladder dent, ice loading beyond what any gutter is designed for, and blockage from debris that was never cleared. Some of that is an insurance claim rather than a warranty call — and we will tell you which one you are looking at, even when it means we do not get the work.

If something goes wrong

How to make a claim

No forms, no claim numbers, no waiting on hold. Four steps.

  1. 1 Photograph it From the ground is fine — please do not go up a ladder to document a leak. A wide shot and a close one are enough.
  2. 2 Send it to us Text or email the photos with your address. If you remember roughly when the work was done, that helps us pull the file faster.
  3. 3 We look at it Usually within a couple of days, sooner in an emergency. Sometimes we can tell from the photo whether it is our work or storm damage.
  4. 4 We fix it At no charge if it falls under workmanship. If it does not, you get a quote before anything happens — no surprise invoice.

If you sell the house

The workmanship warranty stays with the property for its remaining term, not with you. Pass the paperwork to the buyer — a documented 5-year warranty on a recent gutter system is worth showing during a sale.
