Check your own house
Walk around the house after the next heavy rain and look for these. Two or more usually means replacement is cheaper than repeated repairs.
In heavy rain the gutter overflows instead of draining. Usually a blockage or the run has lost its pitch — but on old sectional gutters it often means the seams have dropped.
Cleaning first · replacement if it repeats
A visible dip means the hangers have pulled out of the fascia, often because water sat in the gutter over winter. New hangers help; a bent aluminium run does not straighten back.
Inspection · usually replacement
Water is escaping at the back edge and running down the fascia. Left alone this rots the board, and then you are paying for carpentry as well as gutters.
Act now — cheapest stage
Sealant at sectional joints has a life of a few seasons in a freeze–thaw climate. Re-sealing buys a year or two; seamless removes the joints entirely.
Replacement
Downspouts discharge too close to the house. The gutter may be fine — the fix is extensions or a drain line, which is far cheaper than a wet basement.

Ice dams are as much a ventilation and insulation problem as a gutter one. We will tell you honestly which of the two you are dealing with.

Most companies screw together 10-foot sections from a store. Every joint is a future leak — and in Minnesota, freeze-thaw cycles pull those joints apart within a few seasons.
We run a coil of painted aluminum through our own New Tech Machinery MACH II 5/6 roll former on site, so your gutter comes out in one continuous piece, cut to your exact roofline.

Both options hold water on day one. The difference shows up after a few Minnesota winters — and it shows up at the seams.

We won't pretend sectional is useless — on a small shed or a tight budget it does the job. On a house you plan to keep, the seams are what you'll be paying to fix.
Materials
Painted aluminium coil, formed on site. Two profiles, two thicknesses, 19 factory colours — chosen for your roof, not for our stock.
Five inch is the residential standard and handles most roofs. Six inch moves roughly 40% more water and pairs with 3×4 downspouts.
5-inch K-style
Standard choice. Right for typical roof areas, moderate pitch, and homes without heavy tree cover.
6-inch K-style
Worth it for large roof areas, steep pitches that dump water fast, and any house that already overflows in a downpour.
Thickness matters most where snow slides off the roof and where long runs need to stay rigid between hangers.
.027 — standard
Fine for most homes. Included in the base price.
.032 — heavy gauge
We recommend it under heavy snow load and on runs over 40 feet. Holds shape when ice sits in the channel.

Before you sign anything
Including us. If an answer is vague, that is the answer.
Ask for the certificate, not a verbal yes. If a worker is hurt on your property and the crew is uninsured, that becomes your problem. Any legitimate contractor sends this without hesitation.
On a seamless run the only joints are at corners and outlets. If the answer is "we join every ten feet", you are buying sectional gutters — which is fine, but the price should reflect it.
Most quotes are .027. If nobody mentions gauge, ask. Under Minnesota snow load .032 lasts noticeably longer on long runs, and the price difference is small.
Spikes are cheaper and work loose as the fascia expands and contracts. Hidden hangers screwed into the board hold far better. This one line separates a cheap job from a lasting one.
There is a difference between a manufacturer warranty on the metal and a workmanship warranty on the installation. The second one is what protects you when a seam leaks. Get it in writing.
A name and a direct number. If the answer is a call centre or "the crew will sort it", you have no one accountable once the invoice is paid.
